What Happens in a Vinyasa Class?
A Vinyasa class is a continuous flow of postures, each paired with a breath. Most classes follow a familiar arc: quiet breaths to arrive, sun salutations to build heat, standing postures and balances, then slower floor work and a final rest.
The link between postures is itself called a vinyasa: plank, a lowering push-up, a gentle backbend and downward-facing dog. Your teacher offers options throughout, such as lowering your knees, and child’s pose is always there when you need a breath.
At VATA Studios, Vinyasa is taught in an infrared-heated room. The warmth is there from your first breath, and you will sweat, so bring a large towel and water.

Vinyasa Yoga FAQs
Yes, with one note on pace. Vinyasa at VATA Studios welcomes all levels, but the flow moves steadily and the heat adds to the effort. Take the gentler options, rest in child’s pose whenever you like, and set up near the door, where the air is cooler. Within a few classes, the shape of the flow starts to feel familiar.
Mostly pace. Vinyasa links postures into a continuous flow, one movement per breath, while Hatha holds each posture for several breaths so you can settle into the shape. Hatha is also the broad name for physical yoga, but on a timetable it usually means the slower class. Both are part of our Yoga series and included in every membership.
Vinyasa runs Warm (32°C) or Hot (40°C). VATA Studios warms its rooms with infrared panels rather than blowing hot air, and every class on the timetable shows its heat. If you’re new to heated yoga, drink water through the day, arrive ten minutes early and tell your teacher it’s your first class.
No. Flexibility isn’t a requirement to start, and many people find it changes with regular practice. Cork blocks bring the floor closer when you need them, and your teacher can show you a gentler version of any pose. The warmth can make you feel more open than usual, so there’s no need to push past what feels steady.
