Vin-Yin
Flow first, then stillness. Vin-Yin at VATA Studios in Brighton and Christies Beach warms you with a gentle flow, then settles into long Yin holds, for mobility, release, and balance.
What Is Vin-Yin Yoga?
Vin-Yin is a blended yoga class that pairs an active Vinyasa flow with passive Yin holds. Similar classes are sometimes called Yin Vinyasa or Yin Yang yoga.

What Happens in a Vin-Yin Class?
A Vin-Yin class has two halves. In the first, you move through a gentle, breath-led Vinyasa flow: sun salutations, standing postures and easy transitions that warm the body and steady the breath.
In the second half, the class comes down to the floor. You settle into Yin postures, supported by bolsters and blocks, and hold each one for several minutes while the muscles soften. The class closes with a final rest lying down.
The order matters. Moving first gives your energy somewhere to go, so by the time you reach stillness, it’s easier to stay there.

Vin-Yin FAQs
Yes. The flow in the first half is gentle, and the Yin postures in the second half are floor-based and supported by props. Take the easier options in the flow, rest whenever you need to, and let the props do the work in the holds. It’s a kind introduction to two styles in one class.
Yin stays on the floor for the whole class, with long, passive holds. Vin-Yin spends the first half in a gentle Vinyasa flow, then moves into Yin holds for the second half. Choose Yin for deeper stillness, and Vin-Yin if you like to move before you settle.
They share the same idea: pairing active, flowing yoga with slow, passive holds. Names vary between studios, and so does the balance of the two. At VATA Studios, Vin-Yin is a gentle Vinyasa flow for the first half and long Yin holds for the second.
Vin-Yin is a Warm (32°C) class, and the timetable shows the heat for every class. Warmth can help you stay comfortable through the long holds in the second half. Bring water and a towel for the flow, and a layer if you cool down quickly at rest.
